I love this series so much. Although, this wasn't my favorite by far, it was still decent. Not enough sex and when there were sex scenes there was to much psychoanalysis going on during the scene to really get into it. It was your typical bad guy gets the good guy but the good guy wins, as usual. So, for me, this was a decent book but I would love to see a little change up with the next ones. Also, more of a conclusion for Simon and Chelsea would have been nice instead of immediately going into the next book and just casually mentioning what was happening with all of the main characters. I read the whole book and was looking forward to their outcome and it was just casually mentioned in passing. 😔

I would recommend this book definitely if you've been following the series. Not the best by far but definitely a should read book.

omg this book just about gave me a heart attack.

First of all, if you've been reading this series, you're already invested in the two main characters. Chelsea, who is both broken and a big b!tch, and sooooo needs the support and happiness that her sister Charlotte found with Ian. On the other side is Simon, who has been pretty hunky and appealing since the very first time he was introduced, and has only gotten even more mouth-watering with his patient stalking of Chelsea. Learning more about Simon was possibly my favorite part of this book, because he's always been such a closed character. With Chelsea, there was always more information about her because Charlotte knew her so well, although I learned quite a bit about her during this book also. Seeing her finally become the strong, giving person that was always hiding behind her walls was such a treat.

Although it was also super frustrating. Simon had his work cut out for him with those walls, and just when he thinks he's gained ground... she's running again. She's got some good reasons, but she also deserves the reaming out that she finally gets from Charlotte and goodness was it good to watch that go down! Even better was her reaction afterwards, and then Ian's reaction to her reaction. Man I love that big guy. Simon had his own issues of course, and a background story that I would have NEVER guessed at. We get to meet some of his cousins, who are a riot, as well as (eventually) his parents and brother.

But that's not all! We've got lots of danger as Chelsea is hunted by the Collective, lots of Jesse being an adorable ball of Crazytown murder (and I don't know why I find that so cute), and we've got TWO NEW TAGGERTS that Tennessee Smith has been keeping from Ian & Sean. That's right, Big Tag and Little Tag have two little brothers that they never knew about and they're part of Ten's Agency team... let's just say, Ian does not take the news that Ten has been hiding family members from him so well and I cannot WAIT to see him throw up his big middle finger to Ten as he pulls his brothers into his family. Because that's what Ian does, and that's what this entire book was about - family (both biological and the family of the McKay-Taggert team, because we all know that's what they are), second and third chances, and finding out what's worth dying for - and maybe even living for.

Although, I have to say... Lexi Blake... I almost kind of hate you because I had a feeling that the epilogue was going to be exactly what it was and NOW I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY FOR RELIEF!!!!!!!!!! You evil, wonderful, sadistic author... just like all the subbies at the club, I want more!
In the seventh Masters & Mercenaries book, Chelsea’s being threatened by the Collective, who want to use her skills as the Broker. Simon’s been hoping to get a chance to protect Chelsea and be her Dom.

The Good
I’ve enjoyed this series for a while now, and this one is a decent entry in the series, if not the strongest. Simon and Chelsea have been on a slow burn for a while now, and seeing Chelsea show some emotional growth and seeing a new side to Simon was fun. Chelsea needed to grow up and she’s a frustrating heroine but she gets to a place where she should be with Simon. Ms. Blake has a way with a love scene, and this book is no different. There’s the requisite BDSM bits, but quite frankly this story would work just as well without a flogger or anal play.

I think I really enjoyed how it fit into the overarching storyline with the Collective, the Agency and the ongoing spy-jinks. The new additions to the Taggart family and Simon’s family are clear future leads (and an obvious way to continue this series), and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Simon’s brother end up in the Virgin menage series lol. The teases for Phoebe and Jesse’s story do keep me intrigued and I’ll keep reading on for their story.

The Just Okay
I think Chelsea and Simon had more of a switch relationship than traditional D/s. I think my main issue with the book would be that I was more interested in the overarching story, than in Chelsea and Simon’s romance. The M&M formula is showing its age at the moment, at least when it comes to the leads here and I am concerned that it’s becoming too formulaic (especially in the intro to the new characters). This may be a case of going to the well with this series once too often - it’s not there yet, but I’m hoping there’s some tweaks to the formula coming to freshen things up.

The Bottom Line
If you’ve been reading this series, you may enjoy it even if it’s not the strongest entry. If you haven’t, I’d recommend starting with the earlier books first.
