Love this book, and have been a Chris Van Allsburg fan since I was a kid. Mom won't give me back my my signed copies, so I guess they're not mine after all. I've purchased them all over again... and maybe that's for the best, because our twins can be hard on equipment.

I love this book a d my older toddler seems to really enjoy it as well .
This was my favorite book in kindergarten and now I keep buying it for all of my friends who are having kids. A great way to learn the alphabet
I enjoy Chris Van Allsburg a great deal. Even before I taught, I loved his books - especially The Polar Express. The Z Was Zapped entertained my kindergarten class and fun for making active preditions and alliteration. Each year, my class wold make their own version (I assigned each student a letter) and they illustrated it in just black and white like the book. It was fun fun fun!
Helping a child at church learn to read
Chris Van Allsburg is an amazing children's author and his illustrations are the best in the business. There are a million "ABC" books out there but this is hands down the best. I bought this for my son when he was four and it literally taught him his "ABC's." He is five now and still loves the book. It is one you can read regularly as a parent and not get sick of.
The best teaching is done by involving the reader. In this book the child tries to guess what happened to each letter of the alphabet by looking at the picture and using the sound that letter makes. My all-time favorite Van Allsburg book is "The Wretched Stone" which warns children about the dangers of too much time spent viewing the TV or computer screen. He does this without ever mentioning or picturing a TV or computer. Children have to figure that out themselves.
This alphabet book is for a seven or eight year old. It takes some deductive reasoning to figure out what the letters represent.
A delightful book to read to a class or your own child.
